How Domino's Pizza Utilizes Adobe Learning Manager - Case Study from Adobe Summit 2024

Are you looking for a powerful tool to create engaging and effective e-learning experiences? Adobe Learning Manager might be the good fit for your requirements. At Adobe Summit, we got a sneak peek of Adobe Learning Manager's capabilities through a real-life case study.

This is the story of how Domino’s pizza has utilized Adobe Learning Manager. Domino's is a global leader known for its popular pizzas and unwavering commitment to excellence. Beyond its culinary success, Domino's excels in maintaining high standards through training programs for its franchisees.

Adobe Learning Manager is central to this commitment, serving as a robust tool used to train over 200,000 franchisee employees worldwide. With employees predominantly from a younger demographic and operations spanning across 12 markets with 9 official languages, and over 3700 stores with 100,000+ team members, Domino’s faced the challenge of effective training at scale.

Their learning strategy, dubbed the "six slices approach," outlines the path to excellence:

  1. Aligning the company's mission with broader objectives.
  2. Linking learning outcomes to business goals.
  3. Understanding the audience and tailoring the learning experience accordingly.
  4. Developing user stories to craft a cohesive learning journey.
  5. Utilizing data to provide insights to business leaders.
  6. Ensuring the right technology infrastructure is in place before implementation.

Domino’s developed a learning strategy to address the issue of high turnover, where employees were leaving after 30 days, after mastering pizza making or delivery, or after being promoted too quickly.

Their team of experts realized it is time to take action, so they decided to implement a comprehensive program called "Mammoth" and divided the learning process into 150 steps. They found that the more steps they completed cumulatively, the higher their operational scores became, the sales were bigger and the customer feedback was better. So they decided to align learning outcomes to business outcomes.

The Path to Excellence

Since their employees are accustomed to learning through platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, the management team understood that presenting large blocks of text would not be effective in engaging them. They had to be more innovative.

The company aimed to understand the learners and discovered a few key insights: Most learners used their mobile devices, were highly motivated by gamified content, and they preferred learning material that was relevant to their needs.

Through these strategic pillars, Domino’s has successfully optimized its training programs to meet the diverse needs of its workforce while driving business success. They utilized Headless ALM functionality and collaborated with Adobe partner CoSo Cloud to integrate a solution — a mobile app game where users learn and level up while acquiring job-specific knowledge.

The app divides an employee's career into nine levels and outlines various certifications. Users can create personalized avatars, enhancing their engagement in the game. To elevate gamification, they utilize ALM's badging system, skills, and leaderboard functionality. Domino’s are also using AI-driven training suggestions.

To provide this experience, the company utilizes real user data by establishing API connections between their data lake, which contains records of 100,000 users, and the ALM solution. Management has real time access to dashboards for monitoring their teams' progress and making improvements as needed.

In this manner, the training program is evolving into a dynamic, organic entity that adapts alongside its users. This dynamic approach to training not only empowers employees but also drives business success.
